XI Brazilian Workshop on Micrometeorology

Every two years, since 1999, there is a promotion of the Brazilian Workshop on Micrometeorology. These events have been important not only for the exchange of the advancements of the field, but also to solidify existing collaborations and to foment new interchanges. Micrometeorological science, nowadays, represents an diversified field, congregating knowledge from meteorology, mathematics, transport phenomena, air pollution, ecology, agronomy, among others. For this reason, a good portion of the micrometeorological knowledge is spread among research groups. The previous editions of the Workshop (initially called Workshop on Physics of the Planetary Boundary layer and Dispersion Modeling) has reached the objective of congregating this dispersed knowledge.

The event has grown constantly along its history. Having started with around 60 participants in the initial editions, it has counted with more than 200 participants in each of the four last realizations, in which it has found its equilibrium point in terms of size and embracing of disciplines. Particularly, the 2011 edition counted with around 300 registered papers, 100 of which were published in the special edition of the Ciência & Natura Journal, a Capes Qualis B4 Journal in Environmental Sciences. This shows the solidness of the research developed in the country by groups in all regions of the nation, working in different disciplines with applications in the area.
