The National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais - INPE) in São José dos Campos, promotes this Tuesday (9/11) the second workshop of REDD-PAC, a project aimed at developing technical know-how and capacity of create efficient, effective and environmentally relevant strategies for REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation). The event is a partnership with the IIASA (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Austria) and IPEA (Institute of Applied Economic Research).
The workshop aims to bring together researchers and representatives of the federal government around the project and to discuss national polices for REDD+, which consists of incentives to developing countries that will take actions to mitigate climate change, such as reducing emissions from deforestation.
The REDD-PAC is supported by the international office of the Global Land Project (GLP), based at INPE, which will provide satellite data and complementary space outcomes to the project, from its high-resolution models of deforestation.
