Mission Asia

From 8 to 23, July happen the Mission to Asia in which INPE and Amazônia Program
will be presented for different Institutions in meetings about the "Third
Country Training Programme" (TCTP), managed by JICA and ABC Agencies and
developed by INPE in partnership with IBAMA. In these presentations will be
visited various institutions in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia and presented
the characteristics of the International Training Courses on Monitoring of
Tropical Forests, offered at INPE - Amazon Regional Center. The goal is to
attract participants, committed to monitor forests, for the course to be held in
October this year in Belém, Para State, Brazil.
SEMA - MA visits INPE Amazon

The Secretary of Environment of the Maranhão state, visited on June 16th, the INPE Amazon facilities in order to better understand the tools, systems, products and services used and provided by INPE, which somehow can be availed by the Secretary in their geo-environmental studies.
During the visit, the secretariat were introduced to the deforestation monitoring program and training project, both of great importance to states and municipalities, hence it gives support to the deploying GIS laboratories, which may be able to enhance the environmental licensing, resource management, water management, conservation units, among other tasks.
Claudio Almeida - Personality of the Future

From June 11 to June 20, the head of INPE Amazon, Claudio Almeida, will receive the award of Personality of the Future "Personnalité d'avenir", promoted by the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. This award is offered to young people, in the beginning of their careers, counting with increasing political influence.
During the event, Claudio Almeida will be in contact, visiting and participating of technical meetings with various institutions and personalities of the French research to refine the relationship between the two countries, especially regarding the monitoring of forests, space technology and climate change.
Countries Training on the Monitoring of Tropical Forests

With the current concern on the climate change issues, the monitoring of tropical forests and the study of their evolution became a worldwide need. These activities are something that INPE held for more than 20 years. From May 30 to June 17, technicians from Angola, Mozambique and Paraguay will be trained on the TerraAmazon system, allowing the monitoring of the tropical forests in their countries using the methodology already consolidated at INPE. This is the second course, under the Cooperation Agreement between INPE, ABC, IBAMA and JICA. The first phase of the course will be handled in Belém, in the Regional Center of the Amazon (CRA) and IBAMA, the second phase will occur in Brasilia, inside the dependencies of IBAMA and others partners institutions that works with monitoring and surveillance of the Brazilian tropical forests.

In another region in Africa, specifically in the Republic of Burundi, Claudio Almeida will participate in workshops and technical meetings, with countries members of the Forest Commission of Central Africa (COMIFAC), aiming the validation of the project Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV). The event will allow the review of national components that may help to validate the project documentation and enrich the capacity building process for the monitoring of the Central African region.

INPE's partnership with the international community is already giving positive results, as the agreement signed with FAO to support monitoring activities and public policies for REDD+.
